Cow(boy) Poetry

Open your eyes. See the tall grass and wide expanse of sky.
The shadows of the clouds skipping easily over peaks and hills.
Look closer still and see the cows.
Bellies round from too much grass.
 Mothers resting,
 But alert for danger.
 Keep low and quiet.
What's that in the grass? They wonder.

The Great Salt Lake

A nice, if smelly, Sunday outing.

The Shakespeare Festival

I look forward to the Shakespeare Festival in Cedar City every summer. There have only been a few years since I can remember that I haven't made it to the festival. This year we saw Scapin, The Merry Wives of Windsor, Les Misrables, and Mary Stewart. As always the festival did a great job with each one. I can't wait until next year!

We all enjoyed the pool at the hotel as well.

4th of July

I love the 4th of July in Oakley. For an outsider it might seem quaint, but I love it: the parade with the same floats and entries every year, the abundant candy that is thrown, the patriotic program which always makes me cry, the family barbeque and reunion, the rodeo, the fireworks, and all the kids in cowboy hats.

Jordan doing his pre-parade cowboy walk/dance.

The kids chant of "Candy, candy, candy, candy" was well rewarded.

Not all hats are cowboy hats!
Mom and Evan looking almost like twins at the patriotic program.

Hannah Morrison did a great job singing the Star Spangled Banner.

Happy Birthday America!
